Philips Norelco PT730 Powertouch – Is This the Right Electric Razor for You?

Are you thinking about buying a Philips Norelco PT 730 Powertouch and want to know if you’re about to make the right decision?

You’ll find out in this review.

One of the evil necessities of being a man is shaving.

Show me a man that enjoys shaving and I’ll show you a man that needs his head checked. However for most men whether for a job, a hot date, a dinner party, or just because the wife or girlfriend says so…we’ve got to shave.

Therefore it’s important that you’ve got a razor that works efficiently and effectively so that the whole process isn’t a total burden. Is the PT730 Norelco Razor that razor?

What You Need to Know About the Philips Norelco PT 730 Powertouch

The most important question about a razor is simply “Does it work?” Does it give you a great shave without leaving patches, pulling whiskers, and bothering your skin? And is it a pain in the butt to maintain?

After all it’s a pretty simple process.

How Well Does This Razor Work?

The truth is that for a very well-priced razor (Less than $50 over at Amazon)… this electric razor works pretty darned well even for more stubborn and longer whiskers.

One of the biggest reasons for this is the ‘DualPrecision’ Shaving System which also features Norelco’s Dual Blade Action. This allows you to cut both shorter whiskers, as well as longer, using two separate blades. How close? Well…with it’s patented Super Lift & Cut, the blade gets right below the skin level.

How’s that for close?

This means you get a good shave even if you’ve gone on a shaving hiatus for a while.

Do You Get A Comfortable Shave?…

Philips Norelco PT730 Powertouch 3 head Flex and Float SystemYour face is not perfectly flat obviously. So if you’re used to using a razor that doesn’t account for that fact, you’ll love that the Norelco PT730 does.

The PT730 features a 3 head Flex and Float System which automatically contours to your unique shape as you glide it across your face, neck, and even your head for a close shave in all areas. And of course you get all this without the nicks and cuts that you always run the risk of when using a disposable razor.

Trimming Becomes Easy With This Norelco Razor…

Philips Norelco PT730 Powertouch Pop-Up TrimmerLet’s face it. We don’t all go for the clean shaven look. Some of us like a bit of sideburns, like to rock the mustache, or to sport the goatee. Whichever is fine with this razor.

Simply click the button to release the easy Pop-Up Trimmer and you’ll be able clean up nicely and get rid of all those stragglers. You’ll look sharp as can be without spending the extra money at the barber.

How About the Battery Life?…

Philips Norelco PT730 Powertouch battery indicatorThis is a portable cordless shaver. As with most things that are portable and cordless…the battery life becomes an issue.

One of the great things about this razor IS the battery life. Now…they say that you get 14 days from one charge. That seems to be a little far-fetched. This also depends of course on how long you take to shave. Basically you get 45 minutes of shaving time, so divide that how you will.

For the most part however the PT730 razor seems to last at least a week (and often more) without having to recharge. In almost every case this is plenty. Plug it in over the weekend and you’re good to go.

In fact here’s what one reviewer on Amazon had to say about this very subject…

“My old shaver would not hold a charge for more than one shave. I ordered this one because I was going on a fishing trip where I would not have electricity for a week and I wanted a shaver that would last that long on one charge. I got this one on May 13, charged it and as of May 31 it is still running strong on the initial charge….18 days and counting. Wow!” ~ Amazon Reviewer SeaRay

One more quick note about the battery that I liked…

The Philips Norelco PT 730 Powertouch has an Li-Ion battery. This simply means that you can’t damage it by overcharging. This is a big problem with most razors that people don’t even realize…and will be a huge savings down the road for you.

Washing Your Norelco PT730…

So if shaving is a necessary evil of being a man, then one of the necessary evils of shaving is the cleanup. Nothing anybody likes to do, but it’s got to be done. In fact, it’s the best way to keep your Norelco razor in good condition for a longer period of time.

There’s nothing worse for a razor motor, or for the blade heads than tiny whiskers being stuck in there for long periods of time jamming things up.

Luckily with the Norelco Powertouch PT730…it’s as simple as popping open the razor head and rinsing it right under the water in your sink. Can’t get much simpler than that can it?

Check out what this Amazon reviewer had to say about that and more…

“I really like the ease of cleaning with running water and it holds the charge for at least a week…I charge it every Saturday so it probably would last longer than a week. Works well for me and I recommend it to anyone. My wife says it cuts closer than the multiple blade soap and water razor.” ~ T. Eastland (Amazon Reviewer)

There are also included brushes for more thorough cleaning for stubborn hairs that get wedged.

Is There Anything Wrong With the Powertouch PT730?

For the most part this is a great razor, but like anything in life…nothing is perfect.

The motor seems to have lost some of it’s oomph from earlier Norelco shavers. This seems to be a sticking point for some. I didn’t find it to be a problem as far as effectiveness and quality of shave though. Perhaps these were men with more course beards who ultimately need a higher-powered motor on their razor.

Others have complained that it feels very light and cheap.

Hey we’re men. We like our tools to feel like tools darn it! That being said, this razor is great for travel and any heavier might change that fact.

And the one other complaint is that it takes a while for this razor to get a full charge.

That can be annoying. So simply plugging the razor in over the weekend will do the trick. The good thing again is that you don’t have to worry about overcharging… so you’re even safe just plugging it back in after you use it and leaving it for a day or two.

The Big Question: Should I Invest In the Philips Norelco Powertouch PT730 Razor?

If what you’re looking for is an electric razor that gets the job done, gives you a clean smooth shave without pulling hairs, and is easy to use and clean…then this IS probably the razor for you.

It’s really a high-quality no-fuss razor, and right now over on Amazon it’s only $50 bucks. Run some water over the shaving heads after you use it, change the heads once a year as recommended, and you’ve got yourself a great razor that should last you quite some time (it’s got a 2 year warranty by the way)…

Seems like a great investment to me.
